Who are we?

Northern Ireland Water are the sole providers of best quality drinking water and treat and dispose of wastewater (sewage) within NI.  It places great importance on educating young people in the vital role water plays in our daily lives.

What topics do we support?

Global Perspective, Healthy Living, Waste, Water and Marine

Our Education programmes, currently free of charge, are two-fold: (1) Conservation - raises awareness of saving water and its effects on sustainability; and (2) Water for Health - how important water is to living a healthy life.

How can we help?

Classroom visits

Nursery: 20 minute interactive session covering the topics of how we use water, hydration and saving water.

KS1: 30 minute interactive session covering the topics of the watercycle, how we clean water, hydration and saving water.

KS2: 45 minute interactive session chose from; the watercycle & cleaning water OR water conservation.

Eco-Committee: Become a refill school with a 20 minute chat on the ‘Refillution’ and plastic pollution with your eco-committee. All schools that pledge to become a refill school will receive free reusable water bottles for the whole school.

Assemblies

KS1&2: 15 minute assembly covering the topics of saving water, hydration and plastic pollution

KS3/4: 20 minute assembly covering the cleaning of water, hydration and plastic pollution

Waterbus

P4-7 classes only, 45 minute session covering the topics of the watercycle, how we clean water, hydration, saving water and WaterAid (Maximum of 4 classes per school: waiting list available due to high demand)

Visit Us

KS2: Visit our Wastewater Heritage Centre in Duncrue Industrial Estate, Belfast for a unique experience to find out how we clean wastewater and how we can all look after the water that is returned to our water environments.
